DMV may require you to install what is called an "IDD Device" in your vehicle first, and all of the expenses for the device plus the installation fees must be paid by you as the owner of the vehicle. DMV will then ask you for what is called "SR22" as an option to your auto insurance policy. So what exactly is SR22 and its function? To simply put, SR22 requires insurance company to report to DMV immediately once the auto policy is either discontinued or cancelled so that DMV may place a hold on that vehicle from being out on the road.
